摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem wherein a corrosive fluid sometimes corrodes a magnetic material, even though the magnetic material in a float is needed for magnetic position detection. SOLUTION: A flow meter has a variable area, vertically-oriented conduit through which a fluid to be determined in a flow rate flows. The float in the conduit is located in the duct that depends on the fluid flow rate in the duct. A window is located at an end of the duct on a longitudinal axis of the conduit. A converter unit projects a signal beam constituted of one among the ultraviolet light, visible light, infrared spectral light or ultrasound energy. The signal beam passes through the window and transmits along the axis toward the float. A converter includes a sensor for detecting signal energy returned from the float to the converter unit by reflection or other mechanisms. The intensity and delay time of the return signal energy indicate the position of the float in the duct, from which the fluid flow rate is determined. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
