Disclosed are an access point apparatus for configuring a next generation wireless communication and a method of operating the access point apparatus. The access point apparatus for configuring the next generation wireless communication may include a verification unit to verify a first available band associated with at least one of a first band and a second band; and a configuration unit to configure a backbone network with another access point apparatus positioned within a predetermined distance, through the verified first available band.

a first communication module configured to provide communication in a first band; a second communication module configured to provide communication in a second band; and a processor configured to:
configure a backbone network between the access point and another access point, by using at least one of the first communication module and the second communication module, andconnect between the access point and a station, by using one of the first communication module and the second communication module, or by alternatively using the first communication module and the second communication module.
