PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a waveguide-type optical element that effectively prevents crosstalk between control electrodes formed next to each other without damaging a base plate.SOLUTION: A waveguide-type optical element comprises: a base plate (100); a plurality of optical waveguides (108-114) formed on the surface of the base plate; a plurality of operation part electrodes (118a and 120a) for propagating an electric signal which controls an optical wave propagating through the optical waveguides; and a ground electrode (126s or the like) sandwiched between one of the operation part electrodes and another of the operation part electrodes along the surface of the base plate. The ground electrode is formed such that its structure changes periodically or non-periodically along the length direction of the operation part electrodes.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
