PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compound for regulating the activity of an endothelin (ET) peptide, and to provide a formulation for administering the compound to mammals referring to the fact that a vascular endothelium releases various vasoactive materials such as endothelin (ET), etc., which is a vasoconstrictive peptide originating from endothelium. SOLUTION: Thienyl-, furyl- and pyrrolyl-sulfonamides; pharmaceutically permissible salts of sulfonamides; formulations of the salts and the sulfonamides; and methods for modulating or altering the activity of the peptides of the family of endothelin using the formulations and sulfonamides are provided. In particular, formulations of sodium salts of N-(isooxazolyl)thienylsulfonamides, N-(isooxazolyl)furylsulfonamides and N-(isooxazolyl)pyrrolylsulfonamides are provided. A method for preparing an alkali metal salt of hydrophobic sulfonamides is provided. The method includes a step of dissolving a free sulfonamide in an organic solvent in the presence of a saturated alkali metal salt solution and a step of recovering the formed sulfonamide salt from the organic solvent.
