GROUNDED SURFACE MOUNTED MINI COAXIAL CONNECTOR

A coaxial connector (10) for mounting to a printed circuit board (PCB) substrate (26) which is adapted to having uniform impedance throughout its length. This connector includes a housing of electrically insulating material having a contact side for mating with another connector and a connecting side for mounting on the PCB (26). A plurality of electrical contact elements of (12, 16) electrically conductive material are disposed in the housing and extend from the contact side to the connecting side. Each contact element has a contact end portion (15, 19) disposed at said contact side and a connecting end portion (28, 30) extending from the connecting side. A conductive shield (20) is positioned outwardly adjacent the housing. This shield (20) is fixed to the PCB by means of a contact spring (24) or a solder tab.
