PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a modified polyethylene terephthalate capable of being molded in high productivity to provide a hollow container suitable for the application for filling a liquid such as a drink, and further to provide a method for producing the modified polyethylene terephthalate. SOLUTION: This modified polyethylene terephthalate is obtained by introducing (A) a polyethylene terephthalate obtained by subjecting an esterified product of terephthalic acid with ethylene glycol to a polycondensation reaction, and (B) a polyethylene terephthalate containing a metal compound both in molten states into a mixing tool, stirring and mixing both of the polyesters to provide a metal compound-containing polyethylene terephthalate, granulating the metal compound-containing polyethylene terephthalate into chip shapes, optionally heating the chip-shaped and metal compound-containing polyethylene terephthalate to the temperature lower than the melting point of the polyethylene terephthalate forming the metal compound-containing polyethylene terephthalate to increase the intrinsic viscosity of the polyethylene terephthalate.
