A proprietary internet converter (PIC) allows a calling party end-user device with internet access such as a WAP enabled mobile telephone, to initiate voice communication with a called party VoIP (Voice Over Internet protocol) end-user device. To do so, an Internet Device, ID (with a built-in PIC), needs to convert the protocols used by the calling party end-user device so that the switch that routes calls to the called party VoIP end-user device can understand the instructions sent from the calling party end-user device. The switch has a call forwarding function. The calling party enters the called party user name (e.g. ISP user name/contact or VoIP user name/contact) into a PIC web page, PICWP and the PIC then sets the calling party's call forwarding function on the switch so that an incoming call from the calling party is automatically forwarded called party user name. In a specific embodiment, the calling party has a call-in number (via which he may be contacted using a conventional telephone) and call forwarding settings associated with this VoIP account and the PIC is arranged to reconfigure his call forwarding settings such that calls to his call-in number are forwarded to the calling party user name entered into the PIC webpage. The webpage then provides a click-to-dial button which instigates dialing of the call-in number. Enables a device with only basic Internet functionality (eg a WAP phone) to make a VoIP call to a VoIP user by dialing a conventional telephone number. |
