A method for receiving a multimedia message in a portable terminal is provided to set up reservation information related to reception of the multimedia message and receive the multimedia message according to the reception reservation information, so that a user can reduce an unnecessary data call such as an advertising message and efficiently manage charges for reception of the multimedia message. A method for receiving a multimedia message in a portable terminal comprises the following steps of: setting up reservation information for reception of the multimedia message; analyzing basic information of the received multimedia message when the basic information of the multimedia message is received(505); comparing the received basic information of the multimedia message with the preset reception reservation information; and receiving the multimedia message if the basic information and the reception reservation information are the same(515,519).
