METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PERFORMING FAST HANDOVER IN WIRELESS NETWORKS

A method and an apparatus for performing fast handover in a wireless network are provided to minimize random delay generated in the course of obtaining information necessary to generate an IP address, thereby performing the fast handover. A network apparatus(4) for performing fast handover comprises the followings: a packet generating unit(410) for generating a router solicitation message including fast handover instruction information, when a mobile node participates in a new subnet; a packet transmitting unit(420) for transmitting the generated router solicitation message to a router within the subnet; a packet receiving unit(430) which receives a router advertisement message including information necessary to generate an address from the router according to the fast handover instruction information; and a determination unit(440) for generating the address necessary for the subnet by using the information.
