An imaging device comprises: an optical system; an imaging unit for generating a captured image by capturing a subject image formed via the optical system; and a control unit for calculating an evaluation value from a region corresponding to an AF frame in the captured image and driving the optical system on the basis of the calculated evaluation value to automatically focus the system. The control unit has a normal illuminance mode established when the luminance of the captured image is a predetermined value or greater, and a first low illuminance mode and a second low illuminance mode established when the luminance of the captured image is less than the predetermined value. During the first low illuminance mode, a first AF frame (25) with a size greater than an AF frame established during the normal illuminance mode is established. During the second low illuminance mode, a second AF frame (27a) with a size smaller than the first AF frame (25) is established. |
