PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a lead acid storage battery in which exfoliation and fall-off of an active material from a grid-shaped current collector are hard to occur on the inner peripheral side of a wound-around electrode plate group, and which is superior in a current collecting effect. SOLUTION: This is provided with the wound-around type electrode plate group in which a positive electrode plate 1 and a negative electrode plate 2 in which a plurality of ear parts 1a, 2a are respectively protruded and installed are wound around via separators. The tip ends of the respective ear parts 1a, 2a at every polarity are coupled by a positive electrode strap and a negative electrode strap of the corresponding polarity. As for the positive electrode plate 1 and the negative electrode plate 2, the active material is retained by the grid-shaped current collectors 10, 11 made of a lengthy belt-shaped lead or a lead alloy, and as for at least the grid-shaped current collector of one electrode plate, a grid 14 is formed by a lateral bone 12 in the longitudinal direction and a vertical bone 13 in the width direction.
