PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods for treating and preventing enumerated diseases mediated by damages to endothelial microvasculature, including cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL)-induced killing, radiation-induced GI syndrome, Graft versus Host diseases, inflammatory diseases and autoimmune diseases.SOLUTION: Provided is a method for preventing or treating Graft versus Host diseases comprising administration of a therapeutically effective amount of an anti-ceramide antibody or biologically active fragment thereof. The antibody may be humanized. The antibody may be a monoclonal antibody. The monoclonal antibody may be 2A2 IgM. Statins or imipramine may be included. The antibody is administered to a patient before the patient is subjected to radiation treatment or bone marrow transplantation.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 20
