The engine (10) has an exhaust gas return path (18) for refeeding exhaust gas to an intake side of the engine. A part of the exhaust gas return path is integrated in a control housing cover (16) of the engine. A coolant chamber is integrated in the housing cover, where the coolant chamber stays in thermal contact with the exhaust gas return path. The housing cover and the exhaust gas return path are formed as an integral cast part.
