Provided is a fusion-splicing method and fusion-splicing apparatus for optical fibers, which may prevent a fusion-splicing part of optical fibers from being disconnected when a windproof cover is opened after fusion splicing of the optical fibers. The fusion-splicing method for optical fibers (110) includes the steps of: maintaining the optical fibers (110) in optical fiber maintaining parts (30A, 30B) arranged on a pair of movable stages (20A, 20B), respectively, and covering the optical fiber maintaining parts (30A, 30B) by a windproof cover (4); allowing the sectional surfaces of the optical fibers (110) to come into contact with each other by allowing the pair of movable stages (20A, 20B) to approaching each other; fusion-splicing the contacting optical fibers (110); alleviating a tensile force granted to the optical fibers (110) between portions where the optical fiber maintaining parts (30A, 30B) and the optical fibers (110) of the windproof cover (4) come into contact with each other before the windproof cover (4) is opened. |
