PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact and thin container for housing electronic components which is seals electronic components airtightly without inducing deterioration of their characteristics and normally operates the components for a long time, and also to provide an electronic device. SOLUTION: The container for housing electronic components comprises: an insulating substrate 1 which is provided with a recess on its upper surface to mount an electronic component 4; and a lid 2 which is joined with the upper surface of the insulating substrate 1 by means of a sealing material 3 and houses the electronic component 4 airtightly in a space between the insulating substrate 1 and itself.
