PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve space saving for driving devices, in an elevator for lifting a plurality of cars in one hoistway. SOLUTION: This elevator driving device has ropes 4a and 4b for lifting the cars and a counterweight and sheaves 12a and 12b wound with these ropes 4a and 4b, and has a plurality of driving devices 10a and 10b for driving while pressing the ropes 4a and 4b to the sheaves 12a and 12b by belts 16a and 16b of revolvably moving belt transmission mechanisms 17a and 17b.
