<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a writing utensil such as a ballpoint pen and a mechanical pencil with a simple structured barrel which gives very comfortable gripping feel when a gripping part is held by hand and can heal the fatigue of the hand. <P>SOLUTION: This barrel 1 of the writing utensil has a grip member G consisting of a laminar constitution of the inner layer 4 and the outer layer 5 of a soft material fitted to the gripping part 3 of a barrel body 2.
