Provided is a poly(vinyl alcohol)-based film which is excellent in terms of dyeability and stretchability and which, even when produced as a continuous film having a larger width and a smaller thickness, can give a polarizing film that has a high degree of polarization and no unevenness of polarization. The poly(vinyl alcohol)-based film is characterized in that when the thickness is expressed by D (mm), the tension at the time when the film has been stretched 6 times in the running direction (MD direction) in 30ºC water is expressed by A (N/mm2), and the tension at the time when the film has been stretched 6 times in the running direction (MD direction) in 50ºC water is expressed by B (N/mm2), then the film satisfies the following relationships (1) and (2).
