PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stapler with which a staple is accurately penetrates paper sheets to be bound, restricting an influence of spring back after forming the staple. SOLUTION: The stapler comprises a handle, a frame and a base. The frame comprises a forming plate 15 near the front end of the conveyance path along which the connected staples are conveyed, where the forming plate 15 forms a staple into a shape where it is cut off and its both ends are bent in one direction. The forming plate 15 has an opening part in a central part thereof. An upper part of the opening part is provided with a U-shape staple forming part 15a to be fitted on a receiver base part of the conveyance path. A lower part of the opening part is provided with a staple pushing part inserting part 15b into which a staple pushing part 17a of a pusher 17 is inserted. A projecting spread-retainer 15c formed with inclined surfaces opposite to each other upward from both ends of the staple pushing part inserting part 15b is provided inside the opening part of the forming plate 15.
