PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid-state imaging device whose photoelectric conversion efficiency in an exposure period is improved to improve sensitivity, and a driving method thereof. SOLUTION: The solid-state imaging device comprises a solid-state imaging element which uses a vertical overflow drain structure and has a substrate shutter function, and light shielding means which controls light incident on the solid-state imaging element. In an imaging mode which has an exposure period from an end of a discharge by the substrate shutter to a closure of the light shielding means, a substrate bias voltage is changed from a first bias voltage to a second bias voltage lower than the first bias voltage immediately after the substrate shutter is stopped.
