PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a side guide control method for a hot rolling apparatus capable of preventing the occurrence of flaws or broken surfaces of an end in the width direction of a steel. SOLUTION: The side guide control method for the hot rolling apparatus comprises preventing meandering of steel by a side guide installed immediately before a pinch roll installed immediately before coiling a finish-rolled steel. The method is characterized in that the meandering quantity of the steel is obtained by difference in opening or difference in load between the drive side and the counter-drive side of the pinch roll, and the opening of the side guide is corrected based on the meandering quantity.
