An LCD and a method for manufacturing the same are provided to improve gravity defect and touch defect, by forming a double layered circular protrusion in an array substrate using a material having a harder characteristic than an organic insulating material. Gate lines(113) and data lines(125) cross one another to define pixel regions above a first substrate(110). A gate insulating layer(117) is disposed between the gate lines and the data lines. A thin film transistor is provided at each of crossings of the gate lines and the data lines. First and second circular protrusions(123,133) are disposed on the gate insulating layer correspondingly to the gate lines and formed of the same material as the data lines. The first and second circular protrusions have first and second diameters respectively. A pixel electrode(147) is electrically connected to the thin film transistor. A second substrate(150) is opposite to the first substrate. A black matrix(153), a color filter layer(156), a common electrode(159) are formed above the second substrate. Patterned spacers(163) are formed below the common electrode correspondingly to the first and second circular protrusions. A liquid crystal layer is interposed between the first and second substrates. |
