A vehicle identification method and system. The method comprises: obtaining appearance information of a checked vehicle (S21); obtaining an external feature of the vehicle according to the appearance information (S22); obtaining a perspective image of the vehicle (S23); obtaining an internal feature of the vehicle according to the perspective image (S24); forming a description of the vehicle at least according to the external feature and the internal feature (S25); and determining a vehicle type of the vehicle from a database by using the description (S26). The method uses fusion of multiple pieces of modal information and especially introduces a perspective image to combine internal structural information and appearance information, thereby implementing vehicle type identification of more sense.
