The invention relates to a coolant pump for internal combustion engines. The aim of the invention is to develop a coolant pump characterised by high mechanical efficiency, which reduces the production cost for coolant pumps and which ensures a high degree of reliability. The coolant pump according to the invention has a plain bearing (3) arranged in a bearing housing (2) and a pump shaft (4) that is rotatably mounted in the plain bearing, and also has an impeller (5), which is rotationally fixed to a free end of the pump shaft (4) and comprises a support plate (6) and a cover plate (7), an intake channel (10) lying adjacently to one side of the impeller and a spiral channel (12) lying adjacently to another side of said impeller. The coolant pump is characterised in that a labyrinth seal (15) is arranged between the support plate (6) of the impeller (5) and the bearing housing (2) and the plain bearing (3) is arranged directly next to the labyrinth seal (15) in the bearing housing (2), such that a flushing chamber (16) lies adjacently to the plain bearing (3), on the drive wheel side and a shaft sealing ring (17) lies adjacently to said flushing chamber. One side of the flushing chamber (16) is connected to the intake channel (10) via through-bores (19) arranged in the support plate (6) in the region of the intake channel (10), said bores opening into a back-flow annular groove (20) lying adjacently to the through-bores (19), in the end face of the bearing housing (2), the annular groove being connected to the flushing chamber (16) via back-flow bores (21), and the other side of the flushing chamber (16) is at the same time directly connected to the spiral channel (12) via inflow bores (22) arranged in the bearing housing (2). |
