<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of greatly increasing a permissible shift quantity of a pattern for registration deviation detection without expanding a width of a pattern read by a pattern read means. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with a control unit which controls registration correction based upon a detection result detected by a registration deviation detection unit, and a pattern forming means forms the pattern for registration deviation detection such that a width of each pattern in one block in the horizontal scanning direction is narrower than a read width of the registration deviation detection unit in the horizontal scanning direction and a width of a pattern of one block is wider than the read width in the horizontal scanning direction while a collection of a plurality of patterns arranged shifting in position in the horizontal scanning direction and a vertical scanning direction is regarded as one block. The registration deviation detection unit reads patterns in one block in a plurality of timings, and the control unit controls the registration correction based upon the detection result of a pattern read in one of the plurality of timings. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
