PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent instantaneous defocusing when controlling the drive of a focus lens based on information corresponding to an object distance in a hybrid AF system. SOLUTION: Regarding the automatic focusing device using both a first automatic focusing system of moving the focus lens to a focal point based on a focus signal corresponding to image contrast and a second automatic focusing system of moving the focus lens to a focal point based on the information corresponding to the object distance, the automatic focusing device includes: a storage means for storing the specified range included in the movable range of the focus lens among the lens moving track information where the focus lens position as the focal position related to a zoom lens position is defined in accordance with the information corresponding to the object distance; and a control means (from a step S403 to a step S305 or S309) for deciding whether the drive of the lens should be controlled by introducing the second automatic focusing system in accordance with the effect whether or not the information corresponding to the object distance is within the specified range.
