TGFbeta1-RESPONSIVE CELL FROM BONE MARROW

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a homogeneous population of bone marrow-derived TGFβ-responsive cells, a method for selecting the cells from the bone marrow, and a method for expressing a recombinant protein from the bone marrow-derived cells.

SOLUTION: The selection comprises the steps of treating bone marrow cells in vitro with a TGFβ1 protein and selecting a homogeneous population of the cells for further treatment. After proliferating the selected cells, a gene encoding a therapeutic protein is inserted into the proliferated cells to express the therapeutic protein. The transduced cells can then be introduced into a mammal to produce a therapeutic result.
