<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control method wherein electric power can be generated stably for a long time in a direct methanol fuel cell in which a water permeation coefficientαis 1 or less. <P>SOLUTION: This is a first power generation control method in which concentration control of fuel concentration control mechanism is carried out according to an inequality a: 0≤((C1-C0)/C0)/((P0-P1)/P0)≤20. Here, C0: methanol concentration in the fuel at the initial starting time of the power generation, C1: methanol concentration after lapse of time t, P0: the initial power output, and P1: power output after lapse of time t. This is a second power generation control method when the output voltage V becomes a threshold voltage Vs or less, methanol concentration C of the fuel is raised by an incrementΔC, and power generation is carried out until the output voltage becomes equal to the lowest usable voltage VL or more in a stationary state. This is a third power generation control method in which the standard condition (temperature T0, cathode gas flow amount F0, time tn) and an especial condition (temperature T1, cathode gas flow amount F1, time ta) are carried out while alternately repeating them under ta/(tn+ta)≤30%.
