A fixing unit (500) control apparatus and method are provided. The apparatus includes a printing medium sensor, a calculator for calculating a time when a printing medium is fed to the fixing unit (500); and a heat controller (210) for controlling heat generated by the fixing unit (500) according to the calculated time. Accordingly, printing quality calculated in an early print stage can be improved. Also, by reducing a user waiting time to perform a normal printing job after an image forming device is turned on, a more convenient image forming device can be provided. |
