PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a linear motor and a linear actuator whose overall length is not significantly increased even if the stroke is lengthened. SOLUTION: A peripheral yoke forme of a magnetic material is placed in proximity to the peripheral portion of an exciting coil. The yoke and the coil can be moved relative to each other. As a result, it is possible to obtain a linear motor whose overall length is not significantly increased even if a stroke is lengthened. Further, it is possible to obtain an actuator short in overall length whose sectional area is increased as compared with a conventional case and whose overall length is increased only by an amount equivalent to an increase in the stroke even if the stroke is lengthened.
