PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the generation of defective fixing due to low temperature on a specific position of a recording material, and to suppress the rise of temperature on a non-feeding part due to narrow width of the recording material. SOLUTION: The contact ratio of a heater 1 to a heater holder 2 is made larger on both the end parts of the heater 1 in the longitudinal direction of the heater 1 as compared with the center part of the heater 1. Or the volume of the heater holder 2 per unit length in the longitudinal direction of the heater holder 2 is made larger on both the end parts of the heater 1 in the longitudinal direction of the heater 1. Consequently heat generated from the heater 1 easily escapes to the heater holder side on both the end parts of the heater 1 and the heat does not easily escape to the heater holder side on the center part of the heater 1. It is acceptable that the distribution of a heat value per unit length of the heater 1 in the longitudinal direction of the heater 1 is uniform, but it is also acceptable that the distribution of the heat values is set so that the heat values on both the end parts are larger than the heating value of the center part.
