<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To not only allow a delay time to be controlled but also make a semiconductor optical control element compact while suppressing the increase in power consumption of the semiconductor optical control element. <P>SOLUTION: The semiconductor optical control element is provided with quantum dots 12 and a controlling light source 13, and the controlling light source 13 is so configured that the quantum dots 12 is irradiated with control light L12 having a wavelength corresponding to energy of exciton molecules wherein excitons are bound, and a wavelength of signal light L11 is set so as to correspond to energy of excitons enclosed in the quantum dots 12, and a differential of an absorption spectrum of the signal light L11 is changed by an interference effect between excitons and exciton molecules, whereby an optical output pulse L11b resulting from delaying an optical input pulse L11a is emitted. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
