PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine which can suppress oil consumption while considering a mechanism of the generation of the oil consumption.SOLUTION: In an internal combustion engine 1 having a cylindrical cylinder liner 5 in a cylinder block 2, and a piston 6 which can slide in the cylinder liner, the piston has a ring groove 14 at its external periphery while adjoining a top land 15, a piston ring 18 is arranged in the ring groove, the cylinder liner has a diameter-expanded part 30 whose internal peripheral face is expanded in diameter at least at a part of the internal peripheral face which opposes the top land of the piston when the piston is at a top dead point, and a radius of the internal peripheral face of the diameter-expanded part is larger than a radius of an internal peripheral face of a cylinder liner which is not expanded in diameter by 100 μm to 1,000 μm at the outside of a radial direction of a cylinder.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4 |
