<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate an image retention pattern by controlling light emission time according to the deterioration of a self-light emitting element, such as an organic EL. <P>SOLUTION: A driving transistor 31 for every pixel controls the light emission time of the organic EL 36 by a write signal voltage and a triangle wave signal. The write signal voltage is written into a write capacitor 30 irrespective of a fluctuation in characteristics due to a temperature change or deterioration with time of the organic EL 36 and thereby the light emission time of the organic EL 36 is prolonged when the organic EL 36 is deteriorated by an increase in the internal resistance and the degradation in the luminance due to the deterioration is compensated.
