A backlight assembly and a display device having the same are provided to totally reflect the lights from a light guiding plate, thereby improving the front brightness and the uniformity of brightness, by disposing a plurality of prisms having irregular triangle sections above the light guiding plate. A container(100) has a bottom portion(110) and a lateral portion(120) and defines a containing space. A light generating unit(200) is disposed in the containing space. A light guiding plate(300) is disposed in the containing space such that a lateral surface of the light guiding plate faces the light generating unit. An optical member(600) is disposed above the light guiding plate. The optical member has a plurality of prisms(610), of which sections have irregular triangle shapes. |
