PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a viewfinder device having a live view display function of high quality such that it does not become difficult to view display of a subject image and display of photographic information etc., and a camera. SOLUTION: In a digital camera, a subject image is formed on a focusing screen 56 and information is displayed on an in-finder LCD panel 64 arranged nearby the focusing screen 56. The quantity of light emission of the in-finder LCD panel 64 can be adjusted so that when the in-finder LCD panel 64 performs light emitting display operation, the photodetection level of an imaging element 67 for photography is not saturated.
