PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarizing plate, in which a biaxially oriented polyethylene terephthalate film having excellent dimensional stability and capable of reducing interferential speckles even at a wide viewing angle is laminated on a polarizer.SOLUTION: The polarizing plate includes the following polyethylene terephthalate film laminated on one side of a polarizing film comprising polyvinyl alcohol and iodine. The polyethylene terephthalate film is a biaxially oriented polyethylene terephthalate film for protecting a polarizer, and has a thermal shrinkage of 6.0% or less at 150°C, a retardation of 500 nm or less obtained by expression (1): (retardation)=|n1-n2|×(film thickness), a variation of the retardation in a film width direction of 250 nm/m or less, and a surface orientation coefficient &Dgr;P of the film of 0.160 to 0.175. In expression (1), n1 represents a refractive index in a direction of the orientation major axis within the film plane, and n2 represents a refractive index in a direction perpendicular to the orientation major axis within the film plane. |
