A patch antenna 10 has a planar conductive sheet as a ground plane. A radiative element has a first flat region 14, parallel with the ground plane, and which may be square, with chamfered corners for circular polarised radiation. The radiative element has a second region 16, with a portion 18 not parallel to the ground plane. The second region 16 may be folded so that another portion 17 is parallel with the ground plane. Bridging elements 22 may electrically connect the first 14 and second 16 regions. Non-conducting regions 20, such as slots, may be provided between the first 14 and second 16 regions, for multi-band operation. The first 14 region may have a hole 24, into which a feed pin 26 may be located for capacitive coupling. The radiative element may be mounted on or within a substrate. The antenna may be used for UHF, GPS or SDARS. |
