The loudspeaker comprises a resonant panel (4, fig 2), an exciter (40, fig 2) comprising a foot (49, fig 2) generally cylindrical in shape, coupled to the resonant panel and defining an inner region of the resonant panel. Stiffness of the resonant panel in the inner region under the foot is greater than a stiffness of the resonant panel in a region of the resonant panel outside the inner region (fig 11). A variety of means to locally increase the panel stiffness are described and claimed. Additionally or alternatively, the flat panel loudspeaker further comprises a damping member 10 in contact with the inner region of the resonant panel and arranged inside the foot. The damping member is generally circular with a number of tapering, radial fins (figs 5, 9, 10). This is said to reduce the drum skin resonance within the foot region of the panel, also known as drumming. |
