1316280 1,2,4-Triazole derivatives BOOTS CO Ltd 30 June 1971 [1 July 1970 31 March 1971] 31922/70 and 8275/71 Heading C2C Novel compounds of general Formula III in which R7 is C 2-5 alkylthio, C 2-5 alkylsulphinyl, C 1-5 alkylsulphonyl, or C 3-5 alkenylthio; R5 is C 2-6 alkyl, allyl or 2-methylallyl; R6 is C 2-3 alkyl, allyl, 2-methylallyl or prop-2-ynyl, the total number of carbon atoms in R5 and R6 together being 4-9, are prepared by one of the following methods: (i) a triazole of Formula IV is reacted with a carbamoyl halide of formula Z-CONR5R6 wherein Z=F, Cl or Br, (ii) a carbamoyl halide of Formula VI wherein Z = F, Cl or Br, is reacted with a secondary amine of formula HNR5R6, (iii) a carbonyl bis-triazole of Formula VII is reacted with a secondary amine HNR5R6, (iv) when R7 is alkylsulphinyl or alkylsulphonyl, a compound of Formula VIII wherein R is alkyl, is oxidized. The novel compounds exhibit herbicidal activities and comprise part of a broad group of triazoles described in US Specification 3,308,131. Other 1,2,4-triazole compounds are disclosed but which are not claimed nor disclosed in the above US Specification.
