摘要 1309774 Olefin polymerization MONTECATINI EDISON SpA 24 June 1970 [24 June 1969] 30620/70 Heading C3P Olefins are polymerized using a catalyst comprising a reaction product of a hydride or organometallic compound of a Group I-III metal with the product obtained by contacting a compound of the formula wherein M is an alkali metal or a quaternary ammonium group NR 4 wherein each R is H or hydrocarbyl, or the nitrogen atom is part of a heterocyclic ring; X is NR<SP>1</SP> 2 wherein each R<SP>1</SP> is H or hydrocarbyl or the R<SP>1</SP> are joined so that the nitrogen is a member of a heterocyclic ring ; or some of the X's are halogen; n is the valency of Ti; p is 0, 1, 2 or 3; and m is 1, 2 or 3; with an anhydrous magnesium halide carrier which is activated (as indicated by its X-ray powder diffraction pattern and/or by having a surface area higher than 3 m<SP>2</SP>/g) either before or during the preparation of the catalyst. In the examples, all of which relate to the polymerization of ethylene using aluminium triisobutyl as the organometallic component of the catalyst, anhydrous magnesium chloride is used as a support for: Ti[N(C 2 H 5 ) 2 ]Cl 3 ; Ti[N(C 2 H 5 ) 2 ] 2 Cl 2 ; Ti[N(C 6 H 5 ) 2 ]Cl 3 ; Ti[N(C 6 H 5 )] 4 ; TiBr 3 [N(C 2 H 5 ) 2 ]; lithium titanium tetracarbazyl; and (the latter two being prepared from TiCl 3 [N(C 2 H 5 ) 2 ] and N(C 2 N 5 ) 4 Cl in varying molecular ratios) and anhydrous magnesium bromide is used as a support for TiBr 3 [N(C 2 H 5 ) 2 ]. The reaction of the Ti compound with the support is carried out with grinding or the support may be activated by grinding prior to this reaction.
