The hand lever (1) has a ratchet (2, 3) mechanism and is utilised to apply rotation to a shaft (5). An axially bored forked head block (2) has a threaded bore length accepting the end of a handle bar (1), the remainder of the bore locating a spring loaded cylindrical ratchet (3) with a halved and bevelled tip (3a). The identical legs (7, 8) of the fork each have an open slot (7a, 8a) with a rounded base, a flanged (12a) lever screw traversing a head slot (11) to enter a diametric ratchet tapping and provide a friction type ratchet lock. The appliance is used with the leg slots (7a, 8a) engaging the tool shaft (5), the ratchet tip (3a) engaging a pinion (4) which is keyed on the shaft.
