Frameworks made of tensioned resin impregnated cables - for large weight-critical structures e.g. stratospheric balloons

Rigid frameworks mady by supporting resin impregnated filaments or fabrics with both ends anchored on a suitably shaped jig and then curing the resin before or after applying a tension to the core elements. Pref. the core filaments/fabrics are of glass and the binder resin incorporates lightweight fillers, pref. hollow microspheres of a synthetic material. Esp. claimed for mfr. of lightweight beams comprising parallel cured rods or cables stressed in tension with suitable spacer elements, or for hollow structures comprising a sheet material supported on a framework made of tensioned and cured cables, esp. if the skin is made from a layer of resin compatible with and bonded to the framework binder resin.
