1353258 Pelletizing carbon black DEUTSCHE GOLDUND SILBER-SCHEIDEANSTALT 21 Sept 1972 [23 Sept 1971] 43688/72 Heading B5A [Also in Division C1] Carbon black is pelletized by feeding it, with a liquid, upwardly through a spiked worm apparatus disposed substantially vertically, or at an angle between horizontal and vertical, instead of horizontally. In examples fine particulate furnace black of mean primary particle size 21 millimicrons and BET surface 120 m.<SP>2</SP>/g. is pelletized with water through apparatus (Fig. 2, not shown) comprising a hopper from which the powder is fed by a screw conveyer to the bottom of a vertical spiked worm, water being also supplied thereto, and the resultant agglomerate being discharged from the top. Comparison of this method with that in which the spiked worm is arranged in the conventional horizontal manner is made for a variety of powder inputs and differing water contents. A plurality of spiked worms may be used in either series or parallel arrangement. |
