Flashless forging tool for spur gear wheels - having compensation chamber for surplus metal between upper and lower die

A forging tool for the flashless prodn. of discs with a rotational symmetry and peripheral contoured lines (spur gear wheels) consists of a movable plain upper die of slightly smaller dia. than the finished wheel, and a lower die with the final profile. A compensation chamber is formed at the lowest working posn. of the upper die between its chamfered periphery and the tapered upper edge of the lower die so that the surplus of metal can be accommodated. A knockout punch ejects the finished wheel from the die.
