<p>The engine has two or more externally cooled cylinders horizontally opposed and each containing a piston connected by push rods to a hydraulic piston arranged between the push rods. The hydraulic piston is reciprocated inside a cylinder containing a fluid used as a power output which is also used to regulate the ignition. Direct drive of a hydraulic motor is possible; complication is reduced by dispensing with a crankshaft during a separate hydraulic pump. The ignition in the two cylinders can be timed as required, and the stroke and compression may be varied. This gives increased flexibility of operation.</p> |
