The ultra-violet lamps are contained within a housing and have their longitudinal axes parallel to the direction of movement of the sheet or web material. A reflector is positioned behind the lamps so as to direct the radiation evenly over the width of the material. A flat reflector or one comprising several curved reflector elements can be used. In a further design the lamps are arranged parallel to one another but inclined to the direction of web or sheet movement so that the ends of neighbouring lamps cut or contact an imaginary line extending parallel to the direction of material movement. In this way each region of the printed material passes directly under at least one lamp.
