The gas filled laser is driven from a high voltage source via some form of spark-gap, the complete generator being made up of several such lasers firing in series, coupling between them being by mirrors. The lasing elements consists of a sandwich of two conducting plates and one isolating plate of some plastic material between them. One of the conducting plates is in the form of a parabola at the focus of which the electrical pumping energy is injected, the parallel excitation being reflected back from the parabola energising and firing the laser cavit formed by a slot in this conducting layer.
