Moulding batch for prodn. of casting moulds and cores contains moulding sand as filler and an alkaline or alkaline earth and/or NH4 lignosulphonate as binder and also by wt/wt. sand (1) 0.05-5% phenol or phenol mixt. and pref. (2) 0.5-10% hydraulic bindere, pref. Portland cement or blast furnace slag (3) 0.01-2% oxidising agent pref. K permanganate, (4) 0.01-2% cpd. of a metal having varying valency pref. MnO2, (5) 0.5-3% cpd. of an amphoteric element, pref. TiO2 and (6) 0.05-1% surfactant with foaming activity pref. an Na alkylaryl sulphonate. Used for prodn. of moulds and cores having compressive strengths 10-30 kg/cm2 for large castings.
