1420682 Cotters RAYCHEM CORP 5 Nov 1973 [8 Nov 1972] 51170/73 Heading F2H [Also in Divisions E2 and H2] A fastening pin comprises contacting, coaxial tubular members 10, 11, one tubular member being made of resilient metal and, the other tubular member being made of a memory metal such that the pin has different transverse dimensions above and below the transistion temperature of the memory metal. As shown in Fig. 1, both tubular members are split, the outer resilient tube 4 is made of a gold plated beryllium and copper alloy and the inner tubular member 10 is made of a gold plated titaniumnickel alloy or beta brass which consists of an alloy of copper, zinc and silicon. The titaniumnickel alloy has a transition temperature of about -10‹ C., when heated above this temperature its strength increases and the tubular member 10 expands from its deformed state within the tubular member 11 and the radial dimension of the pin is increased. The pin may have an outer tubular member of memory metal Fig. 4. As shown in Fig. 5, the pin may have spaced circumferential slits along its length. The pin may fasten together a plurality of apertured sheets and when the apertures have different sizes different portions of the pin expand a corresponding extent. The pin may provide a burs connection between a stack of electrical printed circuit boards. |
